We are excited announce that Kuali Research is launching at SIU with an anticipated go-live date of February 1, 2026.
We thank you for your patience and partnership as we transition to a more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly research administration system.
What is Kuali Research?
Kuali is cloud-based, sponsored-project administration software that streamlines proposal and award management. It automates workflows and provides a central repository for proposal and award data, replacing many of the manual systems used in project administration.
How is Kuali Research being used at SIU?
Our campus will use the Kuali Research module to create proposals, track compliance, automate approvals, manage awards, generate current & pending support reports, and more.
Many of the OSPA proposal development and submission processes that you’re familiar with will remain the same, but Kuali will help us streamline, track, and report on proposals much more efficiently. The first step will still be submitting a proposal intake form. Your pre-award specialist will then create the proposal for you in Kuali and we’ll work together in the system on all the components of your proposal.
The guides available on this page will be available to you, as well as live trainings, and personal support from OSPA.
How is the proposal process changing?
Kuali Research will replace the current proposal checklist and email routing for approvals. A Proposal Intake form will still be required for all proposal submissions. The implementation will be a phased approach. You will be notified by your Pre-Award Specialist if your proposal will be using Kuali Research or follow the current process. Proposal documents will continue to be disseminated from OSPA via email. Once full implementation has occurred, campus will access proposal documents via Kuali Research. All proposal information is currently available in Kuali Research for all proposals submitted in FY24 to present.
Award documents will continue to be disseminated from OSPA via email. Once full implementation has occurred, all new award documents will be accessible via Kuali Research. Award information is currently available in Kuali Research for any new awards FY24 to present.

How to Get Help
For help accessing or using Kuali, please see the guides on this page, contact your Pre-Award Specialist, or contact OSPA at ospa@siu.edu
The Kuali Sandbox is a testing environment where you can explore and try things out, without worrying about making mistakes. This system is not “live”, so notifications and approvals are not active.
